In 202X, electric self-driving cars have replaced gasoline-powered cars and have become popular in Japan. However, a famous motor racing competition called MFG, which uses old gasoline-powered cars, is gaining popularity worldwide. Kanata Livington, a 19-year-old Japanese-British driver, comes to Japan after graduating from a prestigious racing school in Britain to participate in the MFG competition and find his missing father, Ken Katagiri. Kanata moves into the home of his father's friends, Mr. and Mrs. Saionji, and enters the competition under his father's family name. He receives a Toyota 86 from Ogata, a family friend of Mr. and Mrs. Saionji. Despite numerous technical differences, Kanata rises to 15th place while competing with extraordinary cars and showcasing his astonishing skills. Takumi Fujiwara, a legendary mountain and rally driver, becomes Kanata's coach in the competition. MFG officials who know Fujiwara and his contemporaries start to take notice of Kanata. A new storm begins to brew in MFG.
